Courses

Beaver Scout Emergency Badge, (also suitable for KS1 pupils). This course has been devised to enable Beaver Scout Colonies achieve the required elements for the Police Emergency Skills badge. It is also suitable for school children aged 6 - 7.The session lasts for approximately one hour and costs £1.50 per child. The main aims and objectives are:

  • Keeping SAFE and finding HELP on the BEACH
  • Staying SAFE and finding HELP on the RAILWAY
  • Keeping SAFE and getting HELP when there is a FIRE in the HOUSE
  • Stay SAFE and call for HELP for people hurt in a COLLISION
  • KEEP yourself SAFE and understand how to get HELP - Dark ALLEY set

KS3 Flood Awareness Course. Flashpoint now offers the opportunity for visiting groups to learn about flooding. The course has been produced, in collaboration with the Environment Agency, for secondary schools and is designed for use at Key Stage 3 and above.

It complements the National Curriculum within the context of Geography and Citizenship.

A flood is a natural event that can have far reaching effects on people and the environment and one which is likely to become more and more apparent due to climate change.

Flashpoint Lifeskills Centre uses three of the life-size interactive sets for this course, making a visit to the centre a memorable experience.

Groups are involved in a flood incident exercise that demonstrates the roles played during a major flood event. Teams have to communicate and work together under pressure to complete a task which highlights the importance of these skills.

Find out about climate change and how it impacts on the south west. What can you do to make a difference? We can all take steps to reduce our 'climate footprint'.

KS3 Personal Safety Course. The centre also offers the opportunity for visiting groups to learn more about personal safety and to give them the appropriate skills and confidence.

This course has been produced, in collaboration with the Devon and Cornwall Police, for secondary schools and is designed for use at Key Stage 3 and above. It complements the National Curriculum within the context of PHSE and Citizenship.

We all need to know how to keep ourselves safe in an ever-changing world. New technology continually presents fresh challenges for young people to deal with.

Flashpoint Lifeskills Centre is equipped with life-size interactive sets, three of which are used for this course, making a visit to the centre a memorable experience.

Groups will also be involved in a classroom exercise promoting discussion and assessing risk of current issues surrounding drugs and alcohol.

Cornwall Lifeskills Forum. The Forum has recently brought together various providers of Lifeskills such as the County and District Councils, Fire Brigade, Police and RNLI.

A certificate scheme is being adopted so that children can earn Bronze, Silver and Gold awards at various stages in their school life. Each level is awarded at Flashpoint by completing the different courses. KS 1 pupils undertaking the Emergency Skills course qualify for the bronze certificate whilst the Primary Course for KS2 students has the silver award. Young people from KS3 undertaking the specialised courses are awarded a gold certificate.
